Fitted Begg’s Retainer
Indications:
Post-orthodontic retention in permanent dentition.
To maintain alignment after comprehensive fixed appliance therapy. (Especially Begg’s technique).
Useful in cases with rotations and spacing corrections.
When a removable retainer with good stability and durability is required.
Maintain the established occlusal contacts and intercuspation.
Contraindications:
Patients with poor compliance (removable appliance).
Esthetically conscious patients preferring invisible retainers (Essix).
Patients having Poor oral hygiene habit.
Corrects (Maintains):
Maintains arch form and incisor alignment.
Prevents relapse of rotations and spacing.
Provides stable retention while allowing for good occlusal settling (since posterior occlusion not covered).
Facilitate spontaneous closure of residual band spaces, if present.
Design:
Begs bow 0.8 or 0.9 mm SS wire, closely adapted to teeth.
Fitted baseplate: Acrylic plate (maxillary or mandibular) with precise adaptation to palatal/lingual surfaces.
The wire component is contoured and adapted to closely wrap around the terminal molars for better retention.

Allows occlusal settling of posterior teeth since occlusal surfaces are not covered.

Modifications:
